Photograph of an engraved metal plaque mounted on the wall of the Historic Shenandoah County Courthouse in Woodstock, Virginia.
Transcribed, the plaque reads:
This building of native limestone, erected in 1791, is the oldest courthouse now in use west of the Blue Ridge.
A few rods southeast from here stood the church in which Peter Muhlenberg preached his martial sermon and made his famous call to arms in 1776.
Thomas Marshall Sr. and Thomas Marshall Jr., father and brother of Chief Justice John Marshall, were the first clerks of this county, 1772-1784.
This tablet was placed here by patriotic citizens of Shenandoah County in 1930.
