Description

Photograph of four prominent men at a diplomatic banquet.

The dinner took place in 1955 in Belgrade. It was hosted by Josep Broz Tito, Prime Minister of what was then Yugoslavia. This event happened after the death of Stalin in Russia.

The men are, from left to right:

Unidentified (probably the interpreter), James William Riddleberger (US Foreign Service and Ambassador to Yugoslavia), Nikita Khrushchev (First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union), Josip Broz Tito (Prime Minister of Yugoslavia), and Nikolai Alexandrovich Bulganin (Premier of the Soviet Union). Possibly, the woman on the far right was Bulganin's wife, Elena Mikailovna Korovina (who was an English teacher in Moscow), but we are uncertain.

This image is a copy of a news photograph taken at the time of the event.
