His parents were Philip Magruder Grabill, Sr., a well-known Woodstock lawyer, and Lucy (Calhoun) Grabill.
After graduating from Central High School, Philip earned a degree from Hampton Sydney College and a law degree from T.C. Williams Law School (now called the University of Richmond School of Law).
Like his father, Philip practiced law in Woodstock.
Unfortunately, he died in his forties of cancer. He never married.
