Landon was from Woodstock, the youngest son of William Luther and Mary Ellen (Gochenour) Wetzel.
He grew up on a farm on West North Street in Woodstock that his parents purchased in 1939.
He married Edith Louise Fake, (born in Falls Church, Virginia), in Strasburg in 1967. At that time, Landon was a huckster and his new bride was a college student.
