Description
Photograph of Springdale, a large, two-story, brick home with four columns supporting a covered front porch. It is located about six miles southwest of Winchester, about 50 yards from the Valley Pike, and is near Opequon Creek.
The home was built by Col. John Hite, son of Jost Hite, in 1753 and was said to be the finest (at that time) west of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This photograph was used in the book, "Historic Homes of Northern Virginia" by John W. Wayland (page 64).
