Description

Portrait photograph of Stanley John Wakeman in his American Legion cap and wearing a suit and tie.

The "199" on his cap denotes the post number which was based in Woodstock.

Stanley was the son of Galen Franklin (1898-1980) and Maude Elizabeth (Clem) Wakeman (1903-1993) from Wakemans Grove near Edinburg. He had many siblings.

He married Betty Lee (Miller) Wakeman (1931-2011) in 1951.

He worked as a salesman for Truck Suppliers and was a member of Wakemans Grove Church of the Brethren. He was an active reserve and color guard at the American Legion Post 199 in Woodstock when he died.

The image on the left has a mark at the top where the photographer noted which of the two images he planned to print.

His obituary was published on February 7, 2011, in both the Northern Virginia Daily and the Daily News Record (Harrisonburg, VA). Some information from those articles was used here.
