James Hardy Rhinehart
A Woodstock Native who joined the US Army in September of 1943. He was sent to France in August of 1944.
Private Rhinehart died September 13, 1944 as a result of wounds received in action during the Bret Offensive. He was awarded the purple heart.
The Shenandoah Herald noted he an employee at the Southern Dairy and was a “beloved” resident. Rinehart was survived by his mother and three sisters. He is buried in France.
As was customary the flags in Woodstock were lowered to half staff in his honor once news of his death was received. Many still mourn his loss.
