Letter sent to ""Dear Mother & Dad & Sid & Sis (Ha)" from Joseph M. Hines. The letter is addressed to Mrs. D.D. Hines of Toms Brook which refers to Mary Hines, Joseph's mother. His father was Duval Hines and his sister was Emma Hines. The identity of "Sid" is unknown.

The letter was sen from Parris Island Marine Barracks where Joseph was a Marine Recruit. It is postmarked October 18 1942.

Dear Mother & Dad & Sid and Sis (Ha)
Well I can just say a few words because I must go to bed [an, or] sleep. I am in the church choir and I sent my Bible home because they gave me a testament. I will write to every one later. Up till now I have been busy. We drill about 5 hrs. per day, 4 guys from my Platoon are in the choir. Tell the preacher hello and that I will send a letter soon. Read this post to Sid, The way I feel now I would like a crack at a Wack [WAC] My Pal Jack Candler just said Hello. He is in the choir to. Well so long till later I must go to sleep. Love Joe XXXxx P.S. tell Sid the little ones are for her.
