Letter:

Dear Mother,
Today we had wonderful news. We are getting 15 day furlough starting Sunday. I guess I’ll get mine in Sept. I don’t know. I’ll have to send home for money and it will be a lot. Around $80 round trip by train. If at all possible send it immediately so I can buy my ticket and be prepared.
About 14 of the fellows are leaving Sunday. I guess it will strain you a lot to send all of that dough and I’ll try to raise some myself. And maybe I can pay it back some day.
I really am happy tonite and I’m going out tomorrow for the last time till I get my furlough. Tell everyone I’m coming and get all the gas you can. Well I have to get ready for inspection tomorrow so goodnite Mother & Dad, see you soon, tell Sis hello.
Love,
Joe
