Letter:
Dear Dad,
I said I wouldn’t write you till you wrote but I’ll break down and scratch a few. I have a bunch of fuzz on my upper lip and I’ll enclose a picture I had made on liberty the other day.
You know dad fighting is just like hunting sometimes except the little bastards shoot back at you. I had some pretty narrow squeaks but I guess I zigged when they zagged cause they didn’t get me.
Mother ask[ed] me what I wanted for Christmas. Well to tell you the truth I really don’t know but it’s more fun not to anyhow. Tell her to send some cookies and the rest is up to you. I can’t think of a thing except a furlough. Ha.
Tell Mr. Tom that I got a Jap with the 45 and I saw a buddy of mine get one at 500 yds with one shot from a B.A.R. They just put a radio in my tent so I’ll have to get on the job before some of the guys come in. So don’t expect much writing from me till you write.
Love,
Joe
PS tell sis she is next but she better write first.
