Portrait of Robert Funkhouser as a young man.
Robert was born in Jerome, Shenandoah County, to Amos (1842-1909) and Sarah Elizabeth (Miller) Funkhouser. His father farmed.
As a young man, Robert moved to Washington D.C. where he worked as a mail clerk for the railroads for many decades. In his WWII registration record, his place of employment was Union Station.
He married in about 1908 to Mary Dorothy (Miller) Funkhouser (1886-1976), the daughter of Adam R. (1853-1922) and Catherine (Polk) (1852-1927) Miller.
By 1940, he owned his home on 5th St. N.E., and had a son, Earl M. Both Robert and his wife died in Washington D.C. and are buried in West Falls Church, Fairfax County, Virginia.
