Photograph of Garland Sefton Bradfield, seated on a bench, and his wife, Margaret Minerva (Stultz) Bradfield, standing beside him.
Garland was the oldest child of Homer L. and Mazie E. (Sager) Bradfield. He was born in Hardy County, West Virginia, but moved to the Stonewall District of Shenandoah County when he was very young.
He married Margaret Minerva Stultz in 1929. Margaret’s parents were Otis Earl (1885-1969) and Ella Laura (Shipp) (1887-1971) Stultz.
By 1940, the couple had four children: Garland, Jr., Shirley A., Phyllis L., and Charles D. Garland Sr. worked at odd jobs around the area. Ten years later, the 1950 census found the family living on Fort Valley Road where Garland Sr.’s occupation was as a truck driver for a retail coal and feed company.
Both Garland and Margaret are buried together in Sunset View Cemetery in Woodstock.
