Vada Delaine (Gochenour) Alexander

Subject

Alexander, Vada Delaine Gochenour (1927-2016)

Description

Portrait photograph of Vada D. (Gochenour) Alexander as a young woman.

Vada was from Woodstock, the twin sister of Vera Gochenour. Her parents were Ben and Georgia (Stultz) Gochenour.

Vada graduated from the Rockingham Memorial Hospital (RMH) School of Nursing, probably in 1947, and lived in Harrisonburg until 2005, when she moved to Bridgewater.

In 1948, Vada married Joseph Alfred Alexander. The couple raised two children together: Joseph Philip Alexander and Dorethia "Dea" (Alexander) Baldwin.

After raising her family, she worked for 13 years as an industrial nurse for Dunham Bush.

She was the founder of the Harrisonburg - Rockingham Parkinson Support Group, and was known by both residents and staff throughout the Bridgewater Retirement Community as the "Plant Lady" because she nurtured and watered all the potted plants.
