Born in Columbia Furnace, her parents were James Franklin and Elizabeth (Whetzel) Dellinger. She had a sister and two brothers. She never married.
Miss Dellinger came to the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind as a child and remained there to teach for over 40 years, retiring in 1962.
Although beginning blind, she was cited for knitting for the lepers. She was also written up in Guide Post for her contribution in teaching the blind.
She is buried in Woodstock.
