Born in Edinburg, Olive was the daughter of Harrison George and Grace Lelia (Frye) Fadeley. She graduated from Edinburg High School and attended Palmer Business School.
She went on to work for the Virginia Department of Highways for 31 years and retired as a secretary there.
Her husband was Samuel Boyd Hawkins (1910-1985).
