Day, Lucy Catherine (Vetter) (1888-1980)

Description

Portrait photograph of Lucy Catherine (Vetter) Day looking to the side.

Lucy was born in Alonzaville to Milton Franklin (1849-1930) and Martha Alice (Richard) (1856-1943) Vetter.

She married William Harrison Day (1891-1969) in July 1915 in Woodstock. Their first child was born in Hardy County, West Virginia, a couple of years later.

Sometime after, the family moved to Arlington where they spent the rest of their lives.

In both the 1920 and 1930 censuses, Lucy’s husband worked as a truck driver for the Carry ice cream factory. They raised their four children – Claribel, Jean, Douglas, and Howard L. -- in Arlington. By 1940, William worked as a janitor for Arlington Public Schools. When he died, his death record noted he was a painting contractor.

Lucy remained in Arlington after her husband’s death. Both are buried in Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington.
