Foley, Edith Marie (Rupert) (1915-2005)

Description

Portrait photograph of Edith Marie (Rupert) Foley, wife of Alvin Hester Foley.

Edith was from New Market and grew up with many siblings. Her parents were Claude Lester (1898-1974) and Pearl Irene (Hepner) (1898-1987) Rupert. Her father was a farm laborer.

She married Alvin Hester Foley (1912-1996) in 1939 in New Market. He was the son of Wade Hampton (1883-1968) and Mamie Elizabeth (Boehm) (1883-1939) Foley and was born in Quicksburg. He had a son, Melvin, from a previous marriage.

The 1950 census found the couple with no children living in the Ashby District of Shenandoah County. Alvin worked as a “junk dealer”. Their marriage did not last.

Edith’s obituary noted she had been a member of Mount Jackson United Methodist Church and also an Avon representative for 34 years.
