Description

Portrait photograph of Ruby Mae (Frye) Phillips as a young woman with glasses and shoulder-length hair.

She was the daughter of Luther Lemuel McKinley (Boots) Frye and Alice (Mauck) Frye of Mt. Jackson.

Ruby graduated from Triplett High School in 1943 and from Dunsmore Business College in 1945. She worked for Valley Fertilizer upon graduation from Dunsmore Business College, for Citizen’s Bank in New Market, and Farmers and Merchants Bank in Timberville.

She married Douglas Eugene Phillips (1925-2020) in 1948. He was also from Mt. Jackson and managed a service station at the time of his marriage. His new wife, Ruby, was a secretary.

Later, she was a bookkeeper for Howell Metal Co. from 1968-86.

The couple raised four children: Alicia P. (Phillips) Deakins, Patricia (Phillips) Shelton, Mary Ellen Phillips, and Charles D. Phillips.
