Portrait photograph of Madison Monroe Funkhouser and his wife, Emma Jane (Maphis) Funkhouser. The couple farmed and raised their family in rural Strasburg.
Madison was born in Toms Brook to Noah Martin (1815-1904) and Anna E. (Hockman) (1823-1885) Funkhouser. He married Emma Jane (Maphis) in her home town of Mt. Jackson in July 1878. Her parents were Joseph (1857-1936) and Theresa (Swartz) (1825-1886) Maphis.
Madison and Emma raised four children: Nannie Lavinia, Frank Maphis, Mable B. and Nellie May Funkhouser. Both are buried in Riverview Cemetery in Strasburg.
