Description

Portrait photograph of Arvella Olinger (Phillips) Wilson as a young woman.

She was born in Mt. Clifton, one of eight children born to Clarence Phillips and Fannie (Olinger) Phillips. Her father was a miller.

She graduated from Triplett High School at the age of 16 and from Winchester Memorial Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1943.

While in the U.S. Army, she met her husband, Alton Wilson, in the Officer's Club. She served as a Lieutenant Nurse in the psychiatric ward, treating pilots returning from the war, 1944-1945.

Arvella married Alton Duane Wilson (1922-1999) in San Antonio, Texas, on February 23, 1945. They shared 54 years of marriage and raised three children.

She continued her nursing career until her retirement in 1980. She lived in Florida for many years before moving to Oklahoma where she spent her last years.
