She graduated from Central High School and Madison College (later called James Madison University). She became a teacher and was employed by the Yorktown Public Schools system when she married.
She married Thomas Wilbur Doggins (1937-2006) in 1963. The couple lived in the Yorktown and Newport News areas of Virginia during their lives together.
