Painter, Garnett (1880-1960)
Description
Garnett Painter as a young man shown standing with his hands behind his back.
Garnett Painter was the son of Nason (1831- 1904) and Rebecca A. (Lindamood) (1841- 1923) Painter, from Hamburg. His father had fought with the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
Garnett was a prominent farmer in the area and lived at Indian Fort Stock Farm, about four miles south of Edinburg.
By 1910, his father had died and Garnett lived with his widowed mother and older sister, Clara. Little had changed in the next census, ten years later.
Garnett married in 1927. His bride was Ida (Henkel) Painter (1878-1935), the only child of Martin and Barbara (Bowman) Henkel.
In the 1930 census, he and Ida lived on Indian Fort Farm and Ida was listed as the “Farm Manager”. After his wife died, the 1940 census found Garnett still living there, by himself.
In the 1950 census, his nephew, Herbert Garnett Painter, and his family, lived with him. After Garnett died, Herbert remained on the farm for many years.
