Description

Portrait of Martha Hockman Rennie as a young woman posed in studio.

Martha was from Strasburg, the daughter of Chester Mason (1901-1968) and Catherine Romaine (Hottle) (1913-1966) Hockman. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1949 and then went on to the Beauty School of Woodrow Wilson in Staunton, Virginia.

In 1951, she married John Fravel Rennie, who had also graduated from Strasburg High School in 1949. He grew up on B Street, the son of J.P. and Lucy M. Rennie. His father was a carpenter.

The couple married in Hagerstown, Maryland, in a double ceremony with a second Strasburg couple, Peggy Crabill and Leroy Fishel.

At the time of her marriage, Martha worked at the Clements Beauty Parlor in Woodstock and her husband worked for the National Fruit Company in Winchester.

Martha and John had at least three daughters together: Carolyn Marie, Susan Gail, and Patricia Dianne Rennie.

In January 2024, the couple celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary at their home on Junction Road, Strasburg.
