Description

Portrait of Charles Monroe Fravel and his wife, Mabel Virginia (Fansler) Fravel. Charles was born in Woodstock to Thomas Hottel (1890-1949) and Nettie Cary (Funkhouser) (1881-1945) Fravel. Mabel was born in her family's home in Basye, Virginia, the oldest daughter of the late Boyd Ashby Fansler and Edna Blanche (Estep) Fansler.

Edna was a graduate of Triplett High School in Mount Jackson, Virginia. Before marrying she worked at Shaver's Restaurant in Woodstock, Virginia from 1940 until 1942 and then at Wender's Department Store in Woodstock, Virginia from 1942 until 1944. In November 1942 she married Charles M. Fravel. He served in the Army as a Private 1st Class during WWII.

In 1951 the couple moved to Arlington, Virginia where Charles worked as an undertaker. They retired to her family home in Basye in 1983.

The couple had one surviving son, Charles A. Fravel, when they died.
