Subject
Gochenour, Ruth Marie Townes (1928-1988)
Description
Photo of two separate images. The couple on the left are unidentified.
The school photo on the right is of Ruth (Townes) Gochenour, born in Washington D.C., to John Franklin Townes and Mary Sarah Ambrose.
This photograph was taken after she, her mother, and siblings had moved back to Strasburg. By 1940, the census found them living on Orchard Street with Ruth's grandparents.
In November 1947, Ruth married 22-year old Virgil Hortense Gochenour, a sheet metal worker living in Toms Brook. Virgil was born in Hardy County, West Virginia, the son of Russell Lowell Gochenour and Ollie Estelle Clark.
When she died, Ruth was employed as a worker in a clothing factory. Her husband survived her.
