Pete Blentson

Subject

Blentson, Pete (1890-1956)

Description

Portrait of Pete Blentson as a young man posed in studio.

Pete was a naturalized citizen born in Greece. He was a partner in, and later co-owner of the New York Restaurant in Woodstock, Virginia, from 1922 until his death in 1956.

Pete was the son of Angelo Blentson and immigrated in 1907.

The 1930 census found him living on Main Street in Woodstock with four other Greek men who were all working as waiters in a restaurant.

Pete married Rena P. Pappas (1900-1973) in 1931, and by 1950, the census found the couple still on Main Street and raising two children, Angelo (19 years old) and Helen (18 years old).

After he died, his son, Angelo, opened the Blue Star Diner on the southern end of town. That establishment was later moved to Newport News by the family where it continued to exist for many additional years.

The building that housed the New York Restaurant was eventually torn down to make room for the current Circuit Court building in Woodstock.
