Portrait of Barbara (Rudy) Bowman as a young woman wearing a heart-shaped locket.

Barbara was the daughter of Raymond Alexander and Beulah Lee (Hockman) Rudy. She grew up in rural Edinburg with two older brothers, Mark and Raymond, Jr. Her father sold automobiles.

She married Dick Delford Bowman (1928-2018) in 1949. He had graduated from Triplett High School and had a degree in Accounting. He was interested in farming.

Dick Bowman and his older brother started a John Deere tractor and equipment dealership in Mt. Jackson in 1955. He also farmed. Over the decades, Barbara raised three children and helped her husband grow the farm and business.

The couple lived on South Middle Road on the original Bowman homeplace and were actively involved with their community and church during their years together.
