Description

Picture of William "Bill" Silas Getz as a child.

Bill was born in Edinburg, son of Mark B. and Hattie V. (Branner) Getz.

He was a 1939 graduate of Edinburg High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Strayer University.

He married Florine Wisman (Fravel) Getz (1923-2007) in 1944. She was from Woodstock, the daughter of Nevin Kline and Lula M. (Wisman) Fravel.

Bill served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After, he was secretary and treasurer of Shenandoah Mutual Fire Insurance Company until he retired in 1987. He continued as Chairman of the Board until 2009.

Always active in his community, Bill was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Edinburg, a life member of Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Woodstock American Legion Post #199 and the International Order of Oddfellows Lodge #82.

The name, "Getz", is written on the glass plate of this image.

This is William "Bill" Silas Getz (1922-2011), son of Mark Bowers Getz & Hattie Virginia (Branner) Getz.

Bill was my grandfather. We have a labeled original in a family photo album.
