Buddy was born in Shenandoah County, the son of Frederick A. “Fred” (1886-1931) and Florence Alice (Fadeley) (1901-1984) Hawkins.

Ruby was born in Conicville, one of six children born to Mantonia Dellinger and Gertie (Mumaw) Dellinger.

Together, Ruby and her husband raised a family. Their children were: Robert D. Hawkins Jr., Brenda H. (Hawkins) Hiner, and Donald E. Dellinger.

The glass plate negative of this image was stored in a box labeled "Sep 1946".

Identified in 2009 by Diane (Miller) Warren, a cousin to Ruby (Dellinger) Hawkins. She recognized both subjects and had seen the same image before.
