Portrait photograph of Geraldine Virginia (Steele) Pauley as a young woman and shown almost in profile.

Born in Middletown, Frederick County, Geraldine was the daughter of Albert Cydney and Orville A. (Miller) Steele. She grew up in Strasburg and had a sister, Frances, and a brother, Marvin.

Her first husband was Bernard H. Estep, an Army soldier from West Virginia stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Geraldine was working as a secretary and living in Alexandria when they married in 1945.

In 1990, she married Kellas Kermit Pauley in Florida. He was originally from West Virginia and the couple spent 10 years together before he died.

She spent much of her life in West Virginia. When she died, her obituary noted she was a retired administrative secretary from the West Virginia Supreme Court.
