Description

Photograph of Norma June (Grabill) Evans as a young woman seated on a bench.

She was from Woodstock, the daughter of Lester Eugene and Hazel Alberta (Stinson) Grabill.

After high school, Norma attended Shenandoah Business College and Madison College. By 1948, she was a senior in the Duke University School of Nursing.

It was in North Carolina that she met her first husband, Steve Donald Arledge. He was a student at the nearby Chapel Hill campus of the University of North Carolina. The couple married in 1948.

In the 1950 census, Norma lived in Durham with her husband and a 6 month old daughter, Pamela. She was working as a registered nurse. The couple divorced not long after.

Norma's second husband was Robert B. Evans whom she married in 1953. The couple lived in the Richmond, Virginia, area for many of their years together.
