Martha was the daughter of Benjamin and Drusilla Dellinger.
She married James Thomas "Tom" Rutherford, Sr. (1916-2004) from Washington D.C., and in the 1940 census, she lived on H St. N.E. with him and two of her sisters, Betty and Ruth. At that time, her husband worked as a pipefitter.
The couple had at least one son, James Thomas "Tommy" Rutherford Jr., (1942-2020), and lived for many years in Silver Spring, Maryland.
