Mary was the daughter of Charles Monroe and Mary Bell (Richards) Hoover. She was born in Strasburg.
In 1933, she married William T. Rhodes, at that time a farmer, born in Rockingham County, Virginia.
The couple remained in Strasburg where Mary became a hair stylist and her husband worked as a barber. Together, they raised two daughters, Janet and Judy.
The name, "Hoover", is written on the glass plate negative of this image.
