Description

Two separate portrait photographs of Cecilia Agnes (Phalen) Doyle of Strasburg.

She was from Strasburg, the daughter of Timothy Bernard and Lillian Ruth (Smith) Phalen. She had two brothers, Timothy and James. Her father was a well-known locomotive engineer for the B&O railroad.

In 1930, the family lived on West King Street in Strasburg. Her mother was not listed but her maternal grandparents and a cousin were living with them.

In the 1940 census, she and her two younger brothers lived with their great aunt and uncle, Hugh and Ida Stoneburner, on "A" Street in Strasburg.

In 1942, she married Floyd Lee Derflinger, Jr., a young airman born in Reliance, Virginia.

The couple moved to Florida some time after they married because he was stationed to an air base there. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot until he died in an air accident over the Gulf of Mexico in 1945.

At the time of his death, the couple had a young daughter, Sharon Lee Phalen.

Cecelia married for the second time in Florida in 1946 to Bernie E. Doyle.

In the 1950 census, she lived in Miami, Florida, with her second husband, Bernie Doyle, a maintenance worker for a water heater manufacturer. Her mother and brother, James, lived with them.
