June was born in Maurertown to Harlin Ray and Thelma (Estep) Bauserman. The 1940 census found June living in the Johnston District with her parents and two older brothers.
She married Larry Ott Hockman (1928-2002) in September 1953. Larry was also from Maurertown, the son of Franklin and Florine (Sine) Hockman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. When they married, Larry worked as an electrician and June worked as a secretary. They both lived in Maurertown.
Together, the couple had at least two children: Thad Sine and Cheryl Lynn Hockman.
