Mary was the only child of Franklin Schmucker (1871-1963) and Sarah Fletcher (Supinger) (1870-1953) Bowman. Her father was a Woodstock merchant.
Mary taught music at Woodstock High School and was served as an organist at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She never married.
