Description
Photograph of a letter written by Henry J. Christman, President and Registrar of Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Groves, Missouri, May 1925, and addressed to Dr. Olin Bain Michael.
A transcription of the letter follows:
My Dear Dr. Michael,
Your letter to hand with the enclosures from Dr. Stibitz and Dr. Spinka. I have talked this over at length with Dr. Leich. We are as much inclined in our hearts as Drs Stibitz and Spinka to grant your request. We are willing that you should have the degree as of 1923 but to sign now under that date does not seem to us true and ethical. Then, too, this would not square with other records of that time, e.g., the minutes of the Faculty and the records of that commencement and also that of 1927.
You seem to think that anything signed as of the present date would not serve your purpose. However, I am enclosing a statement signed by Dr. Leich and myself which you are at liberty to use if you desire.
We are perplexed, having a desire to cede to your request, but must maintain our own conscientious consistency in the as in every other matter.
With regards and all good wishes, I am
Sincerely yours,
Henry J. Christman
