Description

Photograph of Norman Leo Smoot wearing his U.S. Army uniform and seated with his hands in his lap.

He was from Edinburg, a son of Russell A. and Lula Catherine (Funkhouser) Smoot.

He served in Germany during World War II as a member of the 10th Engineer Battalion.

He married Anna Mae (Hottle) Smoot in 1948.

After his military service, he worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation, retiring after 33 years. He was a maintenance superintendent.

He and his wife raised three sons: Orville L., Ronald L. and Larry K. Smoot.

The glass plate negative of this image was stored in a box labeled "Sept 1946".

Contributor

Identified in 2012 by Orville L. Smoot, son of Norman Smoot, and told to Bonnie Painter. He also remembered Norman had a sister, Arlene Barb.
