Description
Portrait photograph of F. Chalmers Sheetz as a young man in his U.S. Navy uniform.
Chalmers was the son of Abe and Ruth (Jennings) Sheetz. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1943 to December 1945.
He then worked at the American Viscose plant and married Betsy Ann Bowman, a waitress from Woodstock, in 1946.
Shortly after Chalmers died, the Free Press newspaper published a column by Jim Morrison of Edinburg that said this about Chalmers:
"The second event sadly was the passing of one of Woodstock's true icons, Francis Chalmers Sheetz. Chalmers was well known to all in Woodstock, and I never heard a harsh word from anyone directed toward him He was a very active person all of his life and I can't recall anyone his age at any time who was in better physical condition He was a postman but oh so much more than that."
