Photograph of a form pertaining to Charles M. Shannon, Jr.'s discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps in May 1946.
He was born on 17 July 1922 in Mt. Jackson, Virginia. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in April 1942 and served as an Infantry Officer when he was discharged.
He qualified as a rifle marksman and served in the Pacific area from 1 June 1945 to 8 April 1946. He participated in action against enemy forces at Okinawa, Ryukus Islands from 19 June 1945 to 30 June 1945.
He was discharged from Washington D.C, and given a travel allowance to get him to Charleston, South Carolina.
