Description

Portrait photograph of Hilda (Kipps) Geist as a young woman.

She was the daughter of Melvin "Doc" and Rosie (Grim) Kipps and grew up in Shenandoah County.

She met her husband, Jack Geist,, when he was visiting the area with friends. Hilda and Jack were married in 1944 during his service as a C-47 pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII.

After the war, they lived in the Washington, DC area while Jack was attending George Washington University. Later, they moved to Woodstock, VA.

Next, they lived at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, for several years while Hilda was working as a draftswoman for the telephone company and Jack was working for the Army Corps of Engineers.

They moved to Satellite Beach, Florida, in 1957.

Hilda was very active in the PTA, the Officers' Wives' Club at Patrick Air Force Base, in Florida, and in leading Brownie and Girl Scout troops while raising their two daughters, Pam (Geist) Smith and Sandy (Geist) Foxworth.
