Cropped photograph of William "Bill" C. Painter (middle of image) wearing a white shirt and tie and surrounded by other unidentified men.

Bill Painter was the son of Levi and Mary Magdalena (Baker) Painter. He was from Hamburg, near Edinburg.

He married Nellie Virginia (Baker) Painter (1873-1950) in 1894.

He ran a livery stable in Edinburg and later operated the first Ford dealership in Shenandoah County. He died on November 16 1931 following a car crash.

The glass plate negative of this image was stored in a box labeled "Aug 1932".

Contributor

Identified in 2012 by Betty O. Wisman who remembered the subject was her father's employer. She had seen a similar picture of him before.
