He entered Naval service on 10 August 1939 as an Apprentice Seaman. He served mainly in Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia, Bremerton, Washington, and Portland, Maine.

He was discharged on 1 September 1945, and given a travel allowance to get him from Portland, Maine, to Staunton, Virginia.

Sadly, he was killed in late February 1949, when the car he was driving struck a telephone pole. He was 27 years old.
