Boss Newland was the son of Charles Robert and Annie E. (Whitmer) Newland.
The store has advertisements in the window including a poster for the upcoming Apple Blossom Festival in 1926, a notice of a public sale of a house and lot in Mt. Jackson, and signs for Davis Baking Powder, Mo-Sam Coffee, and J.G. Meinberg's Bread.
The other man in the photograph, seated, is wearing farm work clothes and a straw hat.
Empty milk cans and part of an automobile are visible on the side of the building.
