He was born in Craigsville, Virginia, to Frank Linwood and Antha (McCutchan) Bashaw.
He married Virginia (Heizer) Bashaw and had a daughter, Marian Cleo (Bashaw) French, while they lived in Staunton
In 1936, the family moved to Maurertown. Frank enlisted in the U.S. Marines in April 1942 and served six months before being honorably discharged.
A few years later, in 1945, the family settled on a farm on the banks of the Shenandoah River.
Frank worked as an insurance agent for many years.
