The set belonged to Peter Muhlenberg, a Revolutionary War era Lutheran/Anglican minister in Woodstock Virginia.
The communion set was owned by Emanuel Lutheran Church in Woodstock following Muhlenberg's departure from the area. It was stolen from the church in the 1970s.
It has not been recovered.
