Gordon Bowman, Sr. was a well-known philanthropist from Shenandoah County. He was a commercial fruit grower and farmer.
He was also very active in the community and served as chairman of the Shenandoah County School Board, President of the Board of County Memorial Hospital and Chairman of the Board of Massanutten Academy in Woodstock.
The Gordon D. Bowman stadium on the campus of MMA is named in his honor.
