Farrell was born in Woodstock, the son of Walter Elwood and Bessie May (Gochenour) Burner.
Born in Star Tannery, Jane was the daughter of Casper Henry and Marie Virginia (Heishman) Lineweaver.
They married in Winchester in 1955. At that time, Farrell lived in Woodstock and worked as a clerk. Jane was a secretary and lived in Star Tannery.
The couple had two children together before ending the marriage in 1983.
Jane married a second time to Richard Hottle. Farrell's second wife was Robbie Johnson in Chesapeake, Virginia.
