Ralph owned and operated a carpentry shop for 30 years in the Shenandoah Valley where he repaired and made accurate reproductions of 18th- and 19th-century American furniture.
From the spring of 1966 until he retired in October 1978 he devoted his talents to the care of historic furniture for the National Park Service at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
