Subject

Benchoff, Gretchen Rebecca (1949-2012)

Description

Photo of two separate portrait photographs of Gretchen Rebecca Benchoff as a young woman with short hair and bangs.

She was the daughter of Robert Johnston Benchoff, headmaster of Massanutten Military Academy, and Jean (Sine) Benchoff.

She graduated from Central High School, Woodstock, Va., and received both a B.M. and an M.M. from Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md.

An image similar to these two was used in the 1967 Central High School yearbook because Gretchen, as a Senior, won the DAR Good Citizenship Award that year.

From 1974-2002, Gretchen was on the college faculty, the preparatory faculty and was chair of the Music Theory Department at Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. From 1981-2005, she was employed by Dunbar Armored Inc., Hunt Valley, Md., as vice president of Human Resources. At the end of her career, she worked part-time in a human resource capacity at Towson Pharmacy, Towson, Md.

Gretchen never married and was buried in Woodstock, Virginia.
